Introducing the Ruhr Innovation Lab
Welcome to the Ruhr Innovation Lab – the new creative hub of Ruhr University Bochum and TU Dortmund University! Our lab provides optimal conditions for free-thinking, inspiring brilliant minds to reach their full potential and pioneer new frontiers in science. It is designed to propel the two participating universities into a new era of impact, where top-level research, societal impact and entrepreneurial pioneering spirit come together. Our goal is to translate our excellent research into practical solutions that contribute to safeguarding prosperity and trust in the digital age, while strengthening the societal values upon which our democracy is built. The universities of the Ruhr Area have always played a pivotal role in driving change processes that will benefit society – we take on that responsibility. For the our region, and beyond.
Our vision
Situated in the Ruhr Area, a region in the midst of transformation, the two universities of the Ruhr Innovation Lab have gathered a wealth of expertise in driving change and fostering transfer processes. At the nexus of research, industry and society, new scientific fields emerge, holding the promise to shape our daily lives in meaningful and sustainable ways. Two guiding principles are of major importance to our scientific journey: safeguarding values and prosperity across generations and strengthening the trustworthiness of information.
The Ruhr Innovation Lab strives to be a university consortium of a new kind, a vibrant innovation system that continuously evolves and reinvents itself. Renewal in the Lab is not crisis response, but a structural principle grounded in tolerance for experimentation and the courage to discontinue ineffective measures – because we are convinced that adaptability paves the way to long-term excellence. Our ultimate goal is to translate excellent basic research into sustainable industrial, social and cultural innovation.
